CONTROL Resonant's campaign is easy to misread as a single line of missions. The Quest Log actually advances three connected strands: Contain the Crisis, Search for Jesse, and Defeating Resonants. If a crisis objective appears to stop, the next step may be a Jesse Fault, a zone Resonant, or a named side story rather than the next marker on the same page. This walkthrough is a route map for those dependencies and a way into the detailed puzzle and boss guides.

A practical zone route from the PowerPyx all-quests list is Downtown → Central → Evacuation Zone → West Incursion Zone → Underpass → Unknown. The Park is optional for the critical path, although its activities contribute abilities, resources and completion progress. This is a recommended sequence, not a claim that the game forbids another order.
The three strands at a glance
| Strand | What you gain | Why it interrupts the apparent main path |
|---|---|---|
| Contain the Crisis | Core story objectives and FBC infrastructure progress | Later chapters explicitly require particular other quests |
| Search for Jesse | Traversal tools through the Incursion, Subway and Underpass Faults | A route may be physically inaccessible until its Fault is cleared |
| Defeating Resonants | Major boss rewards and story gates | Some crisis chapters need specific zone Resonants defeated |
The first sequence is straightforward: Orientation, Welcome to Manhattan, Evacuation Procedures, and Arish's Briefing. After that, Notes: Plan of Attack asks for Power Lines and Into the Sinkhole. Treat them as two branches of one checkpoint. If Power Lines looks stuck at its final power station, the station-by-station guide explains the calibration order and mold circuit.
Later, Enemy of My Enemy requires the Central and West Incursion Resonants. Recursions and Iterations can pause for Jesse Sightings: The Subway Fault, and The House in Distress can pause for the Underpass Fault. These are real gates, not missing objective markers. The final Unknown route requires Pope's Research while progressing through Sever the Hedron Links. Keep the side-story name in mind, since not all optional-looking quests are optional for story navigation.
Story milestone route
| Stage | Main objective or gate | What to check before moving on |
|---|---|---|
| Opening | Orientation → Welcome to Manhattan → Evacuation Procedures → Arish's Briefing | Learn the basic loadout and visit early Wardrobes |
| Plan of Attack | Power Lines + Into the Sinkhole | Finish both branches; neither alone closes the note |
| Midgame gate | Central and West Incursion Resonants → Enemy of My Enemy | Boss overview and a workable build |
| Jesse/Underpass | Subway Fault during Recursions and Iterations; Underpass Fault during House in Distress | Reach and other traversal rewards |
| Late story | Hedron Link → Sever the Hedron Links, with Pope's Research in Unknown | Complete the stated research route rather than searching for a nonexistent shortcut |
| Finale | Rebuild → Fight the Core → The End → The Beginning | Clean up remaining zones after the story if preferred |
The table deliberately shows gates rather than pretending every player sees identical quest timing. Check your own Quest Log, especially if you fought a Resonant earlier than this route assumes. The abilities page explains what each traversal or combat unlock changes; the boss page distinguishes the six named Resonants from the separate Hedron fight.
What to do when there is no useful marker
Open all three main quest groups and read the exact wording of the unfinished objective. If it names a Fault, follow Search for Jesse. If it names a Resonant, prepare for that zone's boss. If it mentions an investigation or relay in Unknown, check Pope's Research. A story marker above a street may also correspond to a basement, tunnel or rooftop entrance; Unsupervised Science is a common example of the map showing the area while the actionable path lies below it.
If enemies feel markedly tougher than those in the last zone, inspect Build Power and recent upgrades before assuming the mission is glitched. Improve the primary form you can actually use, add a complementary secondary, and take Health or Power upgrades as necessary. The build guide separates overall progression strength from the active moves in your two slots.
When to do side stories
Do a side story when it sits near your current route, grants a needed upgrade, or unlocks a known progression gate. Save a full map sweep until you have movement abilities: Shift and Reach turn some initially unreachable objects into ordinary cleanup. For collectibles, the useful question is which quest is active, not simply how many icons remain. The Last Taxi spans seven zones; Freeze Frame spans 14 cameras; The Complete Set has four speakers, a subwoofer and a ritual. None is well served by treating the first pickup as the finish.
The trophy roadmap groups Threshold, Altered Item, mold and zone-cleanup requirements. If you want story-only progress, those can mostly wait; the notable exception is any named mission gate such as Pope's Research and any choice you do not want to replay.
Quick route questions
Is there one mandatory zone order? No. The suggested Downtown-to-Unknown route minimizes backtracking for many players, but the three strands overlap.
Why will Enemy of My Enemy not start? Confirm both required Central and West Incursion Resonants are finished.
Why can I not reach a marked objective? Look for an unfinished Jesse Fault or an alternate underground/rooftop entrance before assuming a bug.
Should I clear The Park? It is optional for the story route cited above, but useful for upgrades and completion.
